Introducing Cartoonists With Attitude!

Alternative cartoonists joining forces, conquering world, making T-shirts. Etc.

Ever want to read the blogs of a bunch of your favorite altie cartoonists all in one place? Well, now you can. Members of the group include Ted Rall, Keith Knight (he’s not on the site yet but will be), Matt Bors, Stephanie McMillan, Jen Sorensen, Brian McFadden, August Pollak, Masheka Wood, and me. Our brand-new website just went live Monday, and we have plans to do a group book signing in DC this October (right before the Small Press Expo).

We’re also making T-shirts. Would you wear this shirt? If so, let me know–I have to figure out how many to order.

New Yorkers Get First SILK ROADS

Thursday, August 31st, 2006 by Ted Rall

New Yorkers Get First SILK ROADSThe first store in the United States to have copies of SILK ROAD TO RUIN: IS CENTRAL ASIA THE NEW MIDDLE EAST? on sale is the venerable Strand on Broadway and 12th Street in Manhattan. The books were put out today! New Yorkers are advised that the first order is limited and that copies will not last.

Amazon sold out of its order the first day the books became available; more are on their way but this is why pre-orders are always smart.

Non-New Yorkers should order from their local bookseller or online.

I will also be signing books, answering questions and unveiling my astonishing slide show of Central Asian despots and their deeds at The Strand on Monday, September 25.

Now that it’s been established that John Karr did not murder a little kid a decade ago, the media is talking about it even more. Check out this beautiful photo of Rita Cosby over at ThinkProgess. Can you spot the obsessive weirdo?

August Pollak gets credit for the title of the strip.

From the Mail Bag

Why are you cartoons so slanted? Is that the only way they publish politico cartoon this days. Seems like its always a shot at the right? Any problems with being an equal opportunity basher. I cant say I like either side, but I do enjoy parodies lampooning both sides of the aisle.

Donnie Mac

No, it’s not the only way they publish cartoons. Usually the only way they publish them in dailies are inoffensive lame jokes. I try not to impose the fairness doctrine in my comics, I just try to make them funny. I suppose they aren’t funny to the people I typically skewer, such as hypocritical right-wingers, religious zealots, and pussy democrats, but I’m unconcerned with what those groups think of me. I’m not an objective journalist, I’m just anti-bullshit.

Here are three anti-bullshit takes on Democrats for you. And here is a recent cartoon making fun of certain peace activists.

And from a friend:

I have the “Sudan is for Lovers” postcard posted prominently in my office at the day job and have already been told by our HR head that “it might not be appropriate for a work environment.” Her blank stare when I replied that I vactioned there said it all…

And a nice fellow by the name of N.W.A.-CRIP writes about my NWA comic:

o shit so matt bors is the dead man that made this, im gonna fucking stomp your pussy face in. you must be a stupid motha fucka for callin eazy e the fuckin god fatha of rap sleazy p,plaese tell me where you live because i would love to get dre and ren and show you how n.w.a really does things. this fuckin gay pussy website thinks it can diss N.W.A, no way im goin to let you fuckin faggots even try to diss us .I will come where ever the fuck gay place this website is located and fuckin stomp all you then leave a blue bandana layin cross ya face.

It’s a movement. It’s a way of life. It’s a website. A group of cartoonists from the ATTITUDE anthologies have gotten together to form the CARTOONISTS WITH ATTITUDE collective/terror cell/coven. Check out all sorts of neat stuff, including a communcal RSS-feed aggregate blog by some of the country’s best politically-oriented comics creators.

CWA will debut at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland this October.

New Cartoon: Roving Reporter, Katrina Losses Editi…

New Cartoon: Roving Reporter, Katrina Losses Edition

Plus: Bush still misses Trent Lott’s porch

(See also my original Katrina cartoons: “Questions,” “The Brighter Side of Hurricane Katrina”, and “Let Them Eat Toxic Sludge!”)

So say you’re a crapbag excuse for a president who was playing air guitar and eating birthday cake while thousands of people drowned and lost their homes and livelihoods and loved ones. And say many of the people thus affected were black and poor. And say you didn’t really do a heckuva job getting them housing or jobs or rebuilding their city. And say it’s a year later, and you want to reach out to them and show them you care, that you understand, you really understand? How do you
express your loss to all these (largely black and poor) survivors?

By talking about how much you href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/08/29/MNGFSKR16R1.DTL">
miss Senator Trent Lott’s porch, of course. You know, the Senator who had to step down as Senate Majority Leader because he longed for the days of Strom Thurmond, segregation and lynching? And I quote:

“It’s hard to describe the devastation down here,” he said.
“It was massive in its destruction, and it spared nobody. U.S. Sen. Trent
Lott had a fantastic house overlooking the bay. I know because I sat in it
with he and his wife. And now it’s completely obliterated. There’s
nothing….”

Because nothing says “I feel your pain” like longing for racist lemonade and fancy real estate. Meanwhile Lott is sitting pretty in the Senate and living in one of his other homes, and Katrina’s real victims are stuck in trailers.

P.S. This isn’t the first time Bush was only able to conceptualize Katrina losses in the context of Trent Lott’s porch. A year ago he made the following infamous remark:

Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott’s house — he’s lost his entire house — there’s going to be a fantastic house. And I’m looking forward to sitting on the porch.

P.P.S. Spike Lee’s HBO documentary When the Levees Broke made me sob like a baby. I highly recommend it, just be sure to have tissues at hand.
