Money and Ethics in Politics

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 by Matt Bors

If only Keith Olbermann had incorporated and added his political donations to the mountains of cash dumped into campaign coffers, he probably wouldn’t have violated any ethics rules at NBC. As August pointed out this week, the network lacks decent standards on a number of other levels as well.

Great effort is made in politics and journalism to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, as opposed to actual interests being conflicted. Journalists like Bob Woodward love to tout symbolic fact that they bring their daughter into the voting booth with them to cast their vote, as they are above such biased activities.

Also, Bush has a new book out and I wanted to throw him in there. You may have heard he was very upset with what Kayne had to say about him during Hurricane Katrina. Truly unfair for him to have to suffer such an indignity while citizens of New Orleans floated dead on the streets of America.

Republicans will be doing nothing over the next two years except trying make Barack Obama a one term president. He seems eager to work with them on that.

Don’t say I’m one of those people who claims there is no difference between either party. Clearly one has a slightly better platform

Correction

Monday, March 29th, 2010 by Kevin Moore

Mike in the UK sent in this funny correction to panel three from last Friday’s The Metric Resistance cartoon:

I generally don’t believe in English authority over our shared language, but I’m conceding this point to him. Why? Every goddamn theater in Boston spells it theatre. And it’s not like the American spelling of liter was getting much use anyway.

But this isn’t over. I’ll be visiting London in May, and I’m going to hunt and gut all of their colours and humours until the Thames is choked with the carcasses of superfluous Us.

Green Brain Comics is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibit entitled COVERED on Wednesday, January 13th in the recently named HEADSPACE Gallery inside Green Brain Comics.

Inspired by a similar theme at the Covered blog (www.covered.blogspot.com) HEADSPACE curator Dan Merritt has assembled several pieces by artists that have brought their own touch to famous, and infamous comic book covers from several different decades.

“The theme for this exhibit has really sparked a creative flame.” says Merritt “Each of these pieces has been lovingly recreated in tribute to the original art and the original artists that created them.”

Featured in the exhibit will be works from Michigan based comic creators Paul Sizer, Matt Feazell, and Sean Bieri. Joining them will be other well known local artists Eric Millikin, Jennifer Rose Evans, and Chris Houghton. The Covered exhibit also features new work by many others, including Bryan Durren, Heather Hansma, Lizz James, Jesse Hughes and a piece by Masheka Wood from New York.

The opening reception for the Covered exhibit will be on Wednesday January 13th from 7pm to 10 pm. And the art will be on view until Saturday March 6th.

HEADSPACE Gallery is inside Green Brain Comics which is located at 13210 Michigan Avenue in East Downtown Dearborn. More information is available at www.greenbrain.biz or by calling 313-582-9444
