Eisner, Opera, bees

Sunday, April 10th, 2011 by Shannon Wheeler

I’m still in shock that I’m up for an Eisner. The competition is stiff – and what’s worse – I like them and their books. My odds of winning are slim but it’s helped that I’ve been posting comics on the act-i-vate website. Most of the book is up to read there:

I hope to get the opera to happen again this summer in Austoria. They want us there – it’s just a matter of crossing my eyes and dotting my teas.

The bee cartoon I sold to the New Yorker continues to sell. A bee magazine wants to use it now. I love it when a cartoon can stay alive. I just got bees yesterday – spent half the day setting them up in a hive.

Stumptown is starting next weekend. I’m not doing much with it except to be on a panel or two. They canceled my little award ceremony which left me smarting. I have a few ideas on moving it elsewhere. I like an inclusive award that is self-nominated and voted on by the attendees. Of course, I like the Eisners a lot too. Holy crap am I liking the Eisners right now.

The www.tmcm.com website is going through a massive re-do. I hope to re-configure TMCM partially a web comic. Blood from a stone as far as making money though.

I’m on the last pages of the Oil and Water (Fantagraphics) graphic novel I’m drawing. Which means I have too much to do in too little time. The end is in sight which makes me happy. Keep an eye out for it.

deal with BOOM! and a poster

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 by Shannon Wheeler

Today BOOM! announced a 3 book deal with me. It’s nice because it finally gives me liberty to talk about Grandpa Won’t Wake Up, my next collection of New Yorker submissions and Too Much Coffee Man. This next year is going to be a roller coaster.

Today, almost spontaneously, I put together a poster of my old Too Much Coffee Man covers. I’ve always been proud of the cool black and white checker pattern they make. Drop me a line if you’d like one. They’re 11″x17″ and $10. I’ll even sign it if you like.

cartoons

The hardback collection of Strange Tales is coming out soon. I’m looking around for all my old roughs. I redrew that thing so many times it’s crazy.

Also – selling more originals. I keep meaning to make a giant pile of art to sell. Right now – just shoot me a private message if there’s an old cartoon you’re interested in seeing.

quick interview

Thursday, March 17th, 2011 by Shannon Wheeler

Looks like my trip to Wondercon in SF, April 1-3 is official. I’ll have a table and some original art to sell and maybe some old comics. I’m still in the throes of several book projects which should be out this year. It’s frustrating to be working on so many things and not have the final product… soon though.

In the meantime – the New Yorker cartoon bank did a great little interview with yours truly. Check it out (and leave a comment if you’re so inclined). Thank you.

book cover

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011 by Shannon Wheeler

I want to use this cartoon (or something like it) for the cover of a potential cartoon collection. It seems like an obvious cartoon and someone must have done it before me. I’ve looked through my NY’er, Far Side and Bizarro collections and I couldn’t find anything. I would love to be able to use this idea but I don’t want to do it if someone else has done it first. Anyone know?
